Growing tips for KNOCK OUT® roses
Every garden needs the beautiful colors and class of offered by KNOCK OUT® roses.
One of the main reasons the common rose sold in the market today, requires a lot of care is the fact the flower is not immune to most diseases. There is one breed that stands out amongst all rose varieties and that is, the KNOCK OUT® rose. It has reached a cult status amongst garden lovers.
They have a longer bloom period and have been found to be resistant to most of the common problems which other rose varieties suffer, including the affects of frost and the need for prolonged sunlight.
Typical zones where knockout roses grow most efficiently are growing zones 3-9. The best part of growing or keeping the KNOCK OUT® variety of rose in your garden is the low maintenance involved.
Typically you don’t need to cut or touch the shrub for the initial two to three years where you can let the shrub grow to its natural shape, after which you can choose to prune the shrub once every three seasons.
The pruning process mainly revolves around the future height which you are trying to achieve. Try and cut the height to around one third of its size, allowing roughly two summers to reach a good height of around 3 allowing the KNOCK OUT® rose to stand proud amongst the other shrubs in your garden.
An important thing to remember when using hand shears, is to sterilize them properly and the cuts should be monitored for a few days after you prune them.
Always aim for a good bloom starting from the internal branches and the ones located at the top. Remove all the dead wood and canes growing towards the bottom as they detract from the beauty of the rose bush.
Over all, the KNOCK OUT® rose is a perfect low maintenance choice for any garden and the colors will add a touch of class.
